Interview - Camille Jones
When did you know that music would be your path? That music was your destiny?
My father is a jazz musician, so I grew up in a house full of music. Furthermore, I went to a small private school where music played a huge role. So, from quite an early age, music has been an important part of my life. My brothers are also into music.
What would people be surprised to know out about you?
Although I am very creative, I also have a rather structured side. For instance, I love doing my finances and have studied mathematics just for the fun of it. I really like numbers.
But music has always been my passion. I started my first band at 15 and have never had a plan B. I think that might be the reason for my success and why I have reached my goals. If you have a plan A, don’t make any other plans.
Where do you find inspiration for your personal style?
Over time, it’s become Instagram. I’m not looking for inspiration, but gathering impressions and when I see something, I really like I buy it. I don’t plan it, it just comes.
Do you have a style icon?
I hate to say but It must be Kate Moss, just like everyone else. Haha… But she really does have great style! I follow @manrepeller on Instagram as well. She wore a white leather jacket at her wedding. That was an outstanding contrast.
What does style mean to you?
Maybe it’s a bit of a cliché, but for me, style is when you have your own personal style, when you own what you are wearing and carry it off with personality. That’s what it takes to have style.
What will you never get rid of in your wardrobe?
The first expensive shoes I bought when I was 26 years old. It was a pair of Dolce & Gabbana sandals and they were SO expensive! But I just had to have them and I still have them today. They’re still wearable, but back then it was almost an entire month’s rent. But I did it anyway.
What will we never see you in?
A turtleneck. I know it might sounds strange, but I simply can’t wear them, they’re itchy and make me look weird. Expensive designer sneakers from some of the big fashion houses is also something you won’t ever see me wearing. And I will never understand those slippers with fur on them.
What is your greatest career moment?
Oh, it’s hard to choose only one. But it may be the first time I heard my own song on the radio. I simply had to pull over to the side of the road. It was just a huge moment and I can still remember the feeling of having made it so far. I had been working with music for so many years and was 27 when my first album was released.
