Part Two Press Release Summer 2008

A BOHEMIAN IS A GYPSY OF SOCIETY
Spanish temperament, glaring heat and seductive flamenco contrast with the lightness and free spirit of the 70s: 'Gypsy of society' signals freedom and independence, epitomising the feeling that Pernille Skriver has chosen as the theme for summer 2008 at Part Two. A journey to Madrid provided the perfect inspiration for a strong collection where traditional Spanish folklore, embroidery and crafts blend with the modern and functional. Contrast continues to be the principal element in Part Two’s fashion.

Prints and embroidery draw inspiration from the mythological patterns of Alhambra tiles which are used both as an elegant trim on shirts and as a miniature pattern on beautiful, lightweight, flax summer dresses. Lightness is emphasised in the raw white shades using a sun-bleached petroleum and charcoal grey together with a classic khaki, which represent the rustic element of the collection.

Other key words for summer 2008 are 'smocking' – an elastic draping effect –which is generously used in tunic dresses and tops. A-line is the recurrent flimsy silhouette of shirts, tops and dresses – with voluminous three-quarter length sleeves. Delicious shock items include saucy functional milk boy striped shorts with lots of zippers, or a dress in screaming pink with rustic stitching that contrasts with the super-feminine colour and style.

The Alhambra patterns are also to be found on sarongs and scarves. Use scarves as headgear and a shawl to create a free airy lightness and elegant volume in the summer heat. The dotted bikini inspired by the 70s with an elegant smocking effect down the sides.

Sun and shade. Temperament and lightness of touch. Modernity and individuality.
Part Two Summer 2008 has become a gypsy of society.
